Re: West Ham v Everton - Official Match Thread
First goalless draw in 42 games and boy was it welcome.

In the context of recent performances in which we defended like we have never played together the whole team worked their socks of from front to back to stifle Everton, who simply couldn't get going or apply any real pressure. We were calm and assured at the back, Lukaku might have only just climbed out of James Collins pocket.

Going forwards we got ourselves into good positions up the pitch often enough, final ball let us down and when it didn't we had no presence in the box as Calleri looked like he'd got lost on a stadium tour and ended up in the changing rooms before kick off.

I thought Collins, Masuaku and Nordveit were outstanding today. Reid and Lanzini also played well while Fernandes did okay out of position.

Whilst the game itself wasn't much of a spectacle you could sense an appreciation from most in the ground for the effort that went into the defensive display.

Re: West Ham v Everton - Official Match Thread
Looked surprisingly solid today, maybe Everton had an off day but Collins & Nordveit stood out for me. I didn't expect Reid to be back this season so that's a bonus.
Masuaku again looked good so maybe some of the squad players are beginning to come out of their shells.

Our problem is upfront, as has been now many years. If we can't attract a couple of decent forwards this summer I'll chuck the towel in with the geriatrics upstairs running the club. Whoever scouted Calleri might as well retire.
If Sakho can string a few games together maybe we can put some results together.

We're playing for pride now. Maybe a fading Stoke & rattled Spuds might be good timing for us but I won't hold my breath.

Wanstead, ridiculous? Really?
He closed down Barkley as noone has done this season. A big factor to why Everton was so poor today.

Charley - he had a better game by his standards, but to say he had a very good game is ridiculous.

Sniper,

I don't see a problem with Lanzini central in a 3/5 with two more defensively capable midfielders behind him. That still gives us scope for Antonio wide right and another winger, hopefully a new one next season. The problem comes when trying to fit Noble into the two behind him as he just doesn't cover the ground anymore. With Obiang, Fernandes, Kouyate, and a new defensive midfielder - or who knows, maybe even Nortveidt after all - contesting those positions we could potentially have the making of a decent midfield next season.

Watched it on a stream and also enjoyed it al lot. Don't think being a miserable old sod on here has much to do with where you watch the game.

Nordviedt did have good game. Broke play up well and showed a good range of passing.

Adrian not one save i think.

Re: West Ham v Everton - Official Match Thread
Was Lanzini wide on the left today then?

My only concern with three at the back is that it makes it harder to have Antonio out wide and Lanzini central, where they are each at their best. But safe to say we look better with three in defence and Adrian barking at them

Nordveit had a very good game

Re: West Ham v Everton - Official Match Thread
I thought we played as well as at any time during this season ( which isn't saying a lot!)

For the first time in ages we didn't completely cede the midfield

We deserved a point against a good Everton team who played very poorly & who never really threatened

Masuaka was impressive, Collins was his usual dependable self (though he was lucky the ref didn't see him blatently tugging Williams shirt in the box ~ a clear pen which we we got away with for a change!)

Seeing Lanzini doing his tricks was one of the few things that brightened up an otherwise dreary match

Now I'll be first to admit I was expecting a drubbing of Everton today especially when I saw Nordtveit was starting

As it turned out, I thought that after a bit of a shaky start, Nordtveit was superb today, the best he's played for us by a mile. He got in tackle after tackle breaking up their play & preventing them from settling into any sort of rythm in midfield, hence the service to Lukaku was non-existent to the point where he was eventually having to hunt for the ball down the wings where he could do very little damage

Bilic got the tactics spot-on today for a change

Re: West Ham v Everton - Official Match Thread
Nordviedt started by giving the ball away but he improved as the match went on and finished dispossessing Barkley and others a few times towards the end in good style.
Still has a thing where every third attempt to control a ball is a pass which is a liability in a defensive midfielder but did ok for someone who has hardly started a game.

Anyone who thinks that Nordtveidt had a good game today is a fucking idiot. Yes, he made two or three good challenges in the last 15 minutes, but other than that he was anonymous. He's an utter fraud of a player with an appalling first touch at this level and hid from both making tackles and making himself available (as opposed to Lanzini, who was always looking for the ball). As for Calleri, don't get me started - I'd have the right fucking arse if he was in the team in front of me, let alone if I was Sakho. Postives were Arthur and Ginge, alongside Lanzini & Adrian's constant organising of the defence (first half rickett aside). Oh, and Everton's support was shit. Pie and Mash in The Plough was decent though.

Weird isn't it?

All the newspapers and fans who didn't go say it was 'boring' or 'shit'.

Almost everyone who DID go say it was a decent performance.

Lukaku didn't have an off day, Ginge and Reidy were just fantastic at marshalling him away from goal. Whenever one stepped up the other went tight on him. After some of our woeful defending performances this season I didn't know we had that game in us.

As good as Winnie and Ginge were, neither were even our best defender- that was Masuaku who was my MOTM. Great going forward AND defending. I'd be amazed if he was replaced by Cresswell as he really deserves a starting berth.

A special mention goes to Norviet who up to now I've considered to be our worst signing of this season. Started off terribly (as usual) but got better and better as the game went on. By the end it was great to see his confidence grow and there might be a footballer in there after all.

It's a shame we look so toothless going forward and why Bilic perseveres with Calleri I'll never know. If Fletcher can't get a game after today he might as well throw his boots in the bin and learn to type.

A great defensive performance which the crowd all seemed to appreciate as they got a standing ovation at the end of the first half and another at full time. A decent atmosphere too.

I enjoyed it a lot.

Everton were very poor. Surprisingly so
And as said I'm not sure we heard a peep out of them

That Roger East is a Mr Punch lookalike cunt
How Davies wasn't booked for trying to snap Reid was ludicrous
And as said he seemed to work on a differing scale of what was a foul for either team
The decisions in each attacking corner when we were punished for 'pushing' and for Sahko easing a defender off the ball were criminal

Re: West Ham v Everton - Official Match Thread
It was a great game to watch. We outplayed a decent team, we had a few chances to score, we passed it about well, we had movement, we didn't just play long ball, we hustled them off the ball countless times. This was 50 times better than how we have being playing. And it was an enjoyable game. Anyone who thinks differently, is an idiot.

stoneman 8:56 Sat Apr 22
Re: West Ham v Everton - Official Match Thread
You have made yourself look very silly again 1307.

Have you actually watched the game? You clearly haven't or you would have seen Nordveidt had a great game.

You are just a pathetic little man who finds negatives in everything.

El Scorchio 8:56 Sat Apr 22
Re: West Ham v Everton - Official Match Thread
Thought the ref was poor again. Their players got treated a lot more leniently for foul play both in terms of things actually being given and also punishment with cards.

They got away with some bad tackles. Fonte got a booking for his first challenge which wasn't as bad as one that had moments earlier gone unpunished.
